Snowy Plovers - 2 adults and 2 young
Big Stone NWR - Lac Que Parle County - 08July2006
The birds were located west of the dike that runs parallel to Hwy 75 on
the east side of the NWR. Take the one way road on top of the dike
(heading north) and hike out on the point west of the maintenance
shed passing between the fenced off old quarry and a row of trees.
Photos were taken via a scope with a hand
held camera. The autofocus, unfortunately, was focusing on rocks
and not on the birds. Photos are cropped (the good focus stuff is
not included) but not otherwise altered |

Adult with two young
It was a rare occurrence to have both chicks visible at the same time -
there were too many rocks to hide behind and the chicks were in constant
motion. |
